Kindergarten & Pre-K

Welcome to Kindergarten

Kindergarten is a wonderful opportunity for your child to discover their new learning environment in the Allegheny Valley School District. We have provided full-day Kindergarten since the 2013-2014 school year with a schedule that follows our elementary school schedule. Kindergarten consists of instruction in the core subject areas and a full range of special subjects.

Kindergarten Registration

All students registering for Kindergarten during the 2026-2027 must be 5 years old by September 1, 2026. Annual registration for Kindergarten begins in March. Parents/Guardians will begin the registration process by completing a Registration Form using the online link found on the Registration home page or on paper.  Once the form has been completed, you will need to submit required documentation to complete the process (the student's proof of age, the student's updated immunization records, proof of residency, parent or guardian photo ID, and ancillary forms). For more information, see the Registration home page.

Kindergarten Screening & Orientation

Kindergarten screening is held in July.  Information regarding the Kindergarten screening process and orientation will be provided in the summer months as we move closer to the upcoming school year.

Pre-Kindergarten

Allegheny Valley School District's Pre-Kindergarten is a comprehensive early childhood education program aligned with the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards. Operating since the 2019-2020 school year at Acmetonia Elementary School, we offer a supportive classroom environment that helps your child develop early literacy and cognitive skills, along with mathematical reasoning activities that students will need to succeed in Kindergarten.

We offer a full-day/five hour program, Monday through Friday. Spots are limited, and students must be toilet trained. AVSD Pre-K promotes positive approaches to learning with content and activities structured to strengthen students’ social, emotional, and behavioral skills. A certified early childhood education teacher educates students with Allegheny Valley teachers delivering special area classes including art, music, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), and physical education.
